Dracula chases mini girls (Original title: Dracula AD '72 ) is a horror film from the British Hammer Studios from 1972. Directed by Alan Gibson . For the first time since Dracula together again, Christopher Lee as Dracula and Peter Cushing as Van Helsing are in the lead roles . With this film, Hammer took a new direction by moving the plot from the Victorian 19th century to the present of the 1970s. The film opened in German cinemas on June 30, 1972. The strange German film title refers to the mini-skirts and shows, like the English title, that the story of the film is now, in contrast to the previous films, in the present.

action

In 1872, Count Dracula and Professor Lawrence Van Helsing waged a bitter battle on a horse-drawn carriage racing through London's Hyde Park . When the coach tips over in a curve, the professor is thrown against a stone by the driver's seat and the count is impaled by the spokes of one of the wheels. Dracula crumbles to dust and Van Helsing also succumbs to his injuries.

100 years later the count is brought back to life by a black mass under the leadership of Johnny Alucard ( anagram of Dracula) and is now up to mischief in 1972 in London . He looks for his victims primarily among young women whom Johnny Alucard has to find for him. As more and more bodies are found, Scotland Yard Inspector Murray contacts Lawrence Van Helsing's great-grandson, Lorimar Van Helsing, for help. Lorimar recognizes the connections and now fears that his granddaughter Jessica, who belongs to Alucard's clique , is in danger. He locates Alucard, who has meanwhile become a bloodsucker himself, and forces him to reveal Dracula's hiding place.

Jessica is now under Dracula's spell. When Van Helsing, who looks very much like his ancestor, confronts the vampire prince, he actually believes he is seeing his old adversary. Spurred on by a bloody thirst for revenge, he follows him outside, where Van Helsing pours holy water on his face. The count recoils in horror and falls into a pitfall that the professor dug earlier that day and equipped with pointed stakes.

Dracula passes, only his ashes and his signet ring remain and Van Helsing speaks the words: "Requiescat in pace ultima" (" Rest in peace forever ").

Reviews

  • Lexicon of international film : "Despite the weak script, thanks to the careful design and good presentation, it is quite enjoyable."
  • Time Out London Magazine : "Crass Hammer trash"
  • Cinema : "The most iconic film from the Dracula series by Hammer Studios offers a good picture and cool music."

Others

  • After the predecessor of Dracula Chasing Mini Girl Dracula - Nights of Horror (1970) mercilessly flopped, Hammer decided that the Dracula series had to be modernized. So the action was moved to what was then London. The film was backed up with contemporary rock music and drugs , long hair and the typical 70s outfit were built into the story.
  • The American pop group Stoneground appears in the film.
  • Dracula Chases Mini Girls , the third from last Dracula film was awesome; it followed in 1973 Dracula Needs Fresh Blood and 1974 The 7 Golden Vampires .
  • In Dracula Hunt Mini Girls , Christopher Lee played the role of Count Dracula in the Hammer film series for the penultimate time.
