Dragged into Sunlight is a black doom and metal band founded in 2006 .

history

Dragged into Sunlight was founded in the UK in 2006. The band members, who say they live and work several hundred kilometers apart, do not provide a more precise regional or even local origin. Still, reviews occasionally mention Liverpool as the group's hometown. The names of the members are not known. Members are identified by individual letters on publications. Accordingly, no founding history is public.

In 2008, the band released Terminal Aggressor , a limited Split - MC with Kas Mana . The following year, the debut album Hatred for Mankind was released via Mordgrimm Records . In the years that followed, the group began touring across Europe, mostly as opening act for bands like EyeHateGod, Weedeater, Black Cobra , Rwake , Today Is the Day and Soilent Green . Prosthetic Records tried in 2010 to re-record and re-release the album. The new recording was by Billy Anderson ( Eyehategod , Weedeater , Melvins , Sunn O))) ) mastered and Tom Dring ( Magpyes , Horse Bastard , Wizard of Misery ) produced . With the publication on Prosthetic Records, the group achieved international recognition. Hatred for Mankind was then widely discussed and rated medium to good in reviews.

In 2012 the group made international festival appearances at popular Extreme and Doom Metal events such as the Dutch Roadburn Festival , the Portuguese SWR Festival and the American Maryland Deathfest . Also in 2012 was an album with Widowmaker that contained a forty-minute piece and was announced as the beginning of a trilogy. Widowmaker received mostly positive reviews.

In 2015 another split EP was released with NV , this time with Gnaw Their Tongues . The group then toured internationally several times, partly as the main act, partly as the opening act for more popular bands like Mayhem .

concept

As a general motivation for the band project, the musicians cite “having an opportunity to cleanse themselves of the daily grind” and to perform with bands they value. The creative and lyrical appearance of the group is particularly shaped by the topics of drug use and Satanism . The group negates a religious or political belief and merely refers to an open search for meaning, misanthropy and nihilism . The band members deliberately remain anonymous and do not disclose any information about the people involved. The band appears in public with balaclavas . When performing, the musicians play with their backs to the audience. The concerts are hardly illuminated. A single stroboscope and candles form the regular stage lighting. The musicians describe their anonymity in part as an element of the conceptual approach, in which the group offers itself as a projection surface without tangible content, the anonymity also acts as a protection of personal rights and as an opportunity to express oneself uninhibited.

“There is no image, no core, nothing. It's completely naked, you can do whatever you want with it. While we indulge in mischief, DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT is an outline of this image and we don't mix work and pleasure. "

- Dragged into Sunlight quoted from Stefan, metal1.info

"Anonymity helps to create a vision without compromise, as nothing has to be held back [sic!]."

- Dragged into Sunlight quoted from Captain Chaos, Vampster

style

The music of Dragged into Sunlight is described as a crossover of sludge , crustcore , doom and black metal . Comparisons are made, in particular, to Celtic Frost . The group itself names influences from Iron Monkey , Broken Hope and Ulver .

The band's sound is considered raw, wild, unstructured, “merciless and non-commercial”. The singing is exclusively guttural and ranges from high-pitched screams and growling to screaming and roaring. Nevertheless, the vocals take a subordinate role compared to the dominant instrumentation. The music is based on an aggressive atmosphere. To convey this, among other things, "the samples, which are almost in excess, which were put together from voice recordings of various serial killers" and sociopaths like Charles Manson. The guitar playing is described as primarily disharmonious and tenacious, but not without surprise to offer "with extremely dominant leads in almost melodic realms". The drumming, on the other hand, is predominantly powerful and aggressive.

"The most vicious Doom idea since prehistoric times emerges, with rumbling, wild drumming, dragging, creeping, raw riffs, crudely distorted bass, insane screams and violent, deep gagging."

- Captain Chaos, vampster
