DuShon Monique Brown (born November 30, 1968 in Chicago , Illinois - † March 23, 2018 in Olympia Fields , Illinois) was an American actress , who was best known for her roles as nurse Katie Welch from the series Prison Break and as Connie from Chicago Fire gained notoriety.

Early years and careers

DuShon Monique Brown was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended Whitney M. Young Magnet High School and later Governors State University , where she graduated with a Masters in Counseling. For a while she worked at the Kenwood Academy in Chicago as a crisis manager.

Brown made her acting debut on camera in 2003 with a small role in the television movie Skin Complex . A little later, in 2005, she was cast in the role of Katie Welch in the series Prison Break , which she played until 2007. She then appeared in other series, including Boss , Shameless , Empire and Electric Dreams in guest roles. Her appearances in movies include Biggest Friends , Engagement With Obstacles , A Light Beneath Their Feet, and Surprise Me! .

Brown mimed her best-known role from 2012 until her death in 2018 as Connie in over 50 episodes in the series Chicago Fire . Between 2009 and 2015 she was also regularly on the theater stages in her Chicago hometown.

The week of her death, Brown was admitted to a clinic for chest pain and was released a little later after a few tests. She died on March 23, 2018 at the age of 49 at St. James Olympia Fields Hospital . An autopsy was scheduled a day later. It turned out that she died of sepsis . Brown left a daughter.
