Duane Linklater

Duane Linklater (born June 22, 1976 in Moose Factory , Cochrane District , Ontario ) is a Canadian video, film and media artist.

life and work

Duane Linklater was born into the Omaskêko Cree people and spent his childhood in the countryside. Linklater studied at the University of Alberta from 2000 to 2005 . He received his Master of Fine Arts from 2010 to 2012 at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College . He studied with Ken Lum and befriended Brian Junge . Linktater works in the areas of performance , installation , film and new media .

Linklater exhibits nationally and internationally. Among others in the Vancouver Art Gallery , the Art Gallery of Alberta , Family Business Gallery in New York, The Power Plant in Toronto and the Thunder Bay Art Gallery . The film project Modest Livelihood , realized by Duane Linklater and Brian Jungs , was first presented in the Walter Phillips Gallery in the Banff Center and in 2012 at dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel .

In 2013 Duane Linklater received the Sobey Art Award . In 2016 Linklater received the Be3Dimensional Innovation Fund together with Geoffrey Farmer . In July 2016 he received the Victor Martyn Lynch-Stuanton Award for Media Art.
