Dude Ranch is the second studio album by the American rock band blink-182 . It was released in German-speaking countries on August 5, 1997 on MCA Records and was the band's first album to make it into the US album charts.
Emergence
Work on the album began in 1996 after the band signed a new contract with MCA Records. Most of the pieces were written during the previous tour. Recordings began in late 1996 at Big Fish Studios in Encinitas, California.
Artwork
Victor Gastelum was responsible for designing the cover, while Lou Beach took care of the drawings. The cover shows a bull with its rear end facing the viewer and turning its head in the direction of the viewer. The animal is branded with the band logo. The background consists of a prairie landscape and a wooden sign with the album title can be seen. Mark Trombino, who previously worked with Jimmy Eat World , was chosen as the producer . In early 1997 the recordings were completed. The mastering took place in the Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood . The album was released on August 5, 1997, the first single was Dammit .

criticism
The album received mostly positive reviews from music critics , on the other hand the album was only rated by a few critics.
Stephen Thomas Erlewine rates the album very positively at Allmusic and awards 4.5 out of 5 stars. He writes that the band's songwriting skills are not yet fully developed, but that compared to Cheshire Cat it is already much better. Nevertheless, Erlewine describes the music on the album as very good.
Sputnikmusic.com also rated the album as excellent with 4 out of 5 stars . Critic Channing Freeman says that the sound is something unique and cannot be compared to the current style of the band.
Charts and awards
The album was the first to make it into the US charts. It could reach place 67. It was also awarded a platinum record in the United States.
