The Dulcie Range National Park is a 191 km² park in the south of the Northern Territory , Australia .
location
The park is located approximately 220 km northeast of Alice Springs and is part of the 2,000 km² area of the Dulcie Range . The area can be reached by four-wheel drive vehicles via the Plenty Highway , from which one branches off in a northerly direction at Huckitta Station Homestead .
history
The national park is located in the area of the Arrernte People. With its water holes, it was a reliable source of water and food for the Aborigines . There are around 100 rock art sites in the park. The most important one, called ataperraperre , is located on Mount Ultim and is sacred to the indigenous people.
With Charles Winnecke the first Europeans reached the 1878 Dulcie-range area. The Australian geologist H.YL Brown followed in 1896 , the Barclay-MacPherson Expedition in 1912. It was not until 1916 that the mountain range was named by TE Day , who named it after his daughter Edith Dulcie Coates. The Old Huckitta Station , the ruins of which can still be seen today, was built in 1920. It was there that agriculture in the area was practiced for the first time.
geology
The mountain range of the Dulcie Range is a sandstone plateau that rises from the surrounding plain by 50 to 150 meters. The plateau is cut by numerous small rivers that have left gorges and rock holes. Many of them are filled with water all year round.
