Artifacts in the park attest to the millennia-old history of the Aborigines . The groups of the Whyungu , Alyawarre and Kaytetye are based here. The first Europeans settled here at the beginning of the 20th century. In addition to leftovers from cattle breeding, there are relics of mineral extraction, mines, former missionary work and an old police station.

Far from any other river system, the waterholes even provide habitat for seven species of fish as well as one species of crab . In the park you can also find dunnarts , antechinus , spectacled hare kangaroos , the northern hare kangaroo , black paw rock kangaroos , mountain kangaroos and real kangaroos .
