Its entire length is part of the Outback Highway , which runs 2800 km through the center of Australia.

course

The track branches off the Stuart Highway (N87) 69 km north of Alice Springs , initially runs north for 27 km and then turns east. It runs along the north side of the Harts Range and crosses the Plenty River , from which it takes its name, and the Marshall River . On the Queensland border, east of the Tobermorey settlement, it merges into the Donohue Highway , which continues to Boulia .

The highest point on the highway is at 706 m, the lowest at 169 m.

Road conditions and gas stations

Only the first 100 km to Ongeva Creek are paved. The rest of the route is unpaved and characterized by deep potholes and bulldust (fine red desert dust). The condition can be inquired at the Harts Range Police Station, 112 km east of the Stuart Highway. Food, water, and fuel are available at Gem Tree, Harts Range, Jervois Homestead, and Tobermorey.

There are petrol stations at the Gem Tree Caravan Park, in Harts Range, in Jervois and in Tobermorey.
