The Central Arnhem Road is a trunk road in the north of the Australian Northern Territory . It connects the Stuart Highway between Mataranka and Katherine with the Nhulunbuy miners' settlement on the Gove Peninsula in the far northeast of Arnhem Land . Up to Mainoru Store the street is also called Mainoru Road and can be used without further ado. A permit from the local authorities is required for the last 460 km.
course
The initially paved road branches halfway between Mataranka and Katherine from the Stuart Highway (N1) and runs east-northeast. She crosses the Waterhouse River and the Quibobikwi River and reaches Mainoru Store on the Mainoru River .
After crossing the Mainoru River, the road continues its way to the northeast through the Arnhem Land via the settlement of Bulman Weemol . It crosses the Wilton River and several times the Goyder River . Then Central Arnhem Road turns east and crosses the Buckingham River . Shortly before crossing the Cato River , it turns northeast again, crosses the Giddy River and the Lantram River and finally reaches Melville Bay Road and the settlement of Nhulunbuy at the tip of the Gove Peninsula.
The highest point along the road is at 281 m, the lowest at 12 m.
