course

The initially paved, two-lane road branches off the Stuart Highway (N87) in the southern Ross district of Alice Springs. It runs east-northeast north of the Todd River to the Ross River , where a cul-de-sac branches off to the settlement of the same name on the river.

The last 36 km to the settlement of Arltunga on the Arltunga Historic Reserve are unpaved. From there, Arltunga Tourist Drive heads west-northwest, over the Hale River and back to the Stuart Highway.

The highest point on the highway is 718 m, the lowest is 509 m.
