features

Macroscopic features

The dark brown bristle disc has resupinate (lying on the substrate), fused fruit bodies with a fine felt consistency. The dark brown fruit layer is smooth and coherent when fresh, but then tears open with age when it is old.

Microscopic features

The dark-brown bristle disc has numerous rust-brown sets of 60–100 × 7–10 µm in the fruit layer. Their hyaline to light brown hyphae are 3–4  µm wide and simply septate. It has 15–20 × 4–5 µm large, four-pore basidia . The hyaline spores of the dark brown bristle disk are around 5–6.5 × 1.5–2.5 µm in size and are cylindrical to slightly curved. He has a monomitic trama and unbuckled septa .

distribution

The known distribution of the species includes Eurasia and the North American continent.

ecology

The dark brown bristle disk grows on the bark of various deciduous trees. In Europe these are mainly stone oak ( Quercus ilex ) and Norway spruce ( Abies alba ), in North America mainly conifers, but also birch ( Betula spp.) And poplar ( Populus spp.).
