geography

course

The river springs from the Availing wells in southeastern sandstone Spessart in the field of district Lohr am Main in the hallway Rodenbach book on the wooded northwestern slope of Stone Bühl ( 471  m above sea level. NHN ) to about 416  m above sea level. NHN .

The closest localities are Rechtenbach , which is just under two and a half kilometers to the northwest, the Lohr district of Wombach , which is roughly as wide in the northeast , and Rodenbach, a good three kilometers away, in the east.

The Dunkelgraben (front) flows into the Rechtenbach (from left to right)

The Dunkelgraben first flows northwards through the Teufelshecken forest , then in the Dunkelschlag along the western slope of the Schwebberg ( 392  m ) through a narrow, wooded valley, passes the boundary to Rechtenbach and reaches a small waterworks . There the dark ditch, which otherwise often fell dry, is considerably reinforced with water by the overflow from its well room.

It finally flows north of it and south of the Rothenberg ( 397  m ) at about 252  m above sea level. NHN directly south of the B 26 from the right into the south curve of the Rechtenbach.

The 1.1 km long course of the Dunkelgraben ends about 165 meters below its source, so it has a mean bottom slope of about 15%.

Catchment area

The 2.17 km² catchment area of the Dunkelgraben lies in the Spessart and is drained through it via the Rechtenbach, the Main and the Rhine to the North Sea.
