ELF Cup
The ELF Cup (abbreviation for Egalité, Liberté, Fraternité ) was a soccer championship organized in 2006 by the North Cyprus Football Association (KTFF). It was designed for teams that were not organized in FIFA and thus could not take part in the FIFA World Cup.
Emergence
The NF board , in which most of the teams are organized, originally wanted to hold its Viva World Cup 2006 in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. However, due to political pressure and disagreements with the KTFF, the competition was moved to Occitania in the south of France .
As a reaction to this, the KTFF started its own “Underdog World Cup” in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Some of the teams that were traded as participants in the Viva World Cup in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus then declared their participation in the 2006 ELF Cup , while other teams on the NF board went to Occitania for the 2006 Viva World Cup, which was taking place at the same time .
ELF Cup 2006
The ELF Cup 2006 took place between November 19 and 25, 2006 in the internationally unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus . The preliminary round was played in two groups with a total of eight teams - in the three stadiums of Güzelyurt , Girne and Gazimağusa . The games of the main round were played up to the final in Lefkoşa .
Interestingly, the most recently registered participants from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are official members of AFC and FIFA , which contradicts the actual idea of the ELF Cup.
