Earl Cross

Earl Cross (born December 8, 1933 in St. Louis , Missouri , † 1987 ) was an American jazz trumpeter (also mellophone , piano ).

Cross worked in the New York free jazz scene in the late 1960s a . a. with Noah Howard , with whom the first recordings were made ( The Black Ark , 1969). In the early 1970s he played in the quintet of the drummer Rashied Ali and had his own sextet , in which Juma Sultan , Ronnie Boykins , Roger Blank , Jimmy Vass and Daoud Haroon played; a concert recording from 1973 appeared on the album Jazz of the Seventies / Una Muy Bonita on Circle Records . In 1980 he played with Rashied Al Akbar , Muhammad Ali and Idris Ackamoor ; The live recording Ascent of the Nether Creatures was made during a performance in the Netherlands (published on NoBusiness Records 2014). From the mid-1970s he was a member of the Charles Tyler Quintet. In the field of jazz he was involved in 11 recording sessions between 1969 and 1981.
