Earl Sidney Weaver (born August 14, 1930 in St. Louis , Missouri , † January 19, 2013 on the Caribbean Sea ) was an American baseball manager in Major League Baseball . His nickname was The Earl of Baltimore .
biography
Earl Weaver spent his entire managerial career with the Baltimore Orioles . Under his direction, the Orioles won six titles in the American League East, four championships in the American League and one World Series title . He won 1,480 games with 1,060 losses. Weaver is also the most dismissed manager in Major League Baseball. Weaver had to leave the pitch 98 times, mostly after discussions with the referees.
In 1982 he finished his first period of service with the Orioles and moved to ABC as a television commentator . There he commented on the 1983 World Series with the Orioles together with Howard Cosell and Al Michaels .
In 1985 and 1986 he took over the position of manager again. In 1996 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame .
