Eberhard Langer

Eberhard Langer (born June 20, 1934 in Chemnitz ) is a German engineer and politician ( SED , PDS ). Between 1986 and 1990 he was Lord Mayor of Karl-Marx-Stadt and from 1990 to 1999 he was a member of the Saxon State Parliament .

Life

Eberhard Langer attended elementary and high school in Chemnitz and graduated from high school in 1952. He then studied physics and materials engineering in Leipzig and Karl-Marx-Stadt. He has been an engineer since 1957 and a graduate engineer since 1965. In 1973 Eberhard Langer received his doctorate in engineering. From 1957 to 1978 he was work manager and operations director of the VEB screw factory in Karl-Marx-Stadt. Between 1969 and 1979 he was director of the VEB screw combine and from October 1990 to 1993 managing director of Sächsische screw works Chemnitz GmbH

Langer is married and has four children.

Eberhard Langer has been a member of the SED and PDS since 1959. Between 1979 and 1984 he was the first deputy mayor of Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1985 and 1986 he was chairman of the Freiberg district council . From 1986 to 1990 Eberhard Langer was Lord Mayor of Karl-Marx-Stadt. In October 1990 he entered the Saxon state parliament via the state list, to which he belonged for two electoral terms until 1999. There he was a member of the Committee on Economics and Labor in the 1st electoral term and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economics, Labor and Technology in the 2nd electoral term and a member of the Budget and Finance Committee.

From 1993, Langer was a member of the Federal Party Council of the PDS. Between 1979 and 1984, between 1986 and 1990 and from 1994 he was a city councilor in Chemnitz. From 1993 he was a member of the supervisory board of the business development company in Chemnitz and from 1994 of the supervisory board of Chemnitzer Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft .

criticism

Critics point out that Langer has never clearly distanced himself from his role in the SED state to this day, especially with regard to his participation in preparatory measures for the internment of dissidents in the fall of 1989 ("Grid 1"). In addition, it is criticized that in the 2009 local election campaign Langer referred positively to his participation in the socialist GDR dictatorship .
