Dieter Noll (born October 25, 1939 ; † November 14, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German civil engineer and politician ( CDU ).

Life

After studying civil engineering and business administration , Noll received his doctorate in 1971 from the University of Mannheim on the subject of economic assessment of armed forces: with special attention to the area of the German Federal Armed Forces. He worked as a management consultant in Budenheim near Mainz before moving to the GDR after the fall of the Wall in 1990 to pursue a political career. After the first free local election in Karl-Marx-Stadton May 6, 1990, from which the CDU emerged as the strongest parliamentary group, he was nominated by the latter and elected Mayor on June 1, 1990. One of his first official acts was the renaming of the city of Karl-Marx-Stadt in Chemnitz as a result of a public survey.

Noll was a founding member of the sponsoring association for the Chemnitz model and the railway museum . Due to his personal intervention , the demolition of the building of the former Harlaß foundry, which now houses the industrial museum, was prevented.

After the WDR reported for the first time on February 4, 1991 based on Noll about "questionable methods with which West German politicians are trying to gain a foothold in the East" (Noll was accused of unauthorized completion of a planning contract for the Maison France hotel complex by exceeding competence and bypassing the city council ), the administrative district of Chemnitz initiated a supervisory procedure and the Chemnitz public prosecutor's office initiated an investigation against Noll. After massive demands to resign, he resigned from office at the end of April 1991. His party friend Joachim Pilz initially took over the official business on June 1 and was finally elected Mayor on July 3, 1991.

Dieter Noll then moved to Berlin and initially worked from 1994 as managing director of a Dutch construction company and later as a self-employed construction company. In 2002, Noll went to Afghanistan for three years as an advisor to the Ministry of Reconstruction . Most recently he lived in Berlin-Moabit.
