Eberhard Zastrau

Eberhard Zastrau (born March 19, 1954 in Berlin ; † May 22, 2012 in Berlin) was a German human rights activist and publicist who campaigned primarily for the interests of homosexuals

Life

Zastrau graduated from high school in Göttingen . He then studied mathematics and physics at the Technical University of Berlin . Later he changed the focus of his studies to urban and regional planning . He was politically active in the general student committee of the TU Berlin.

For many decades Zastrau was active in human and civil rights policy as well as in memorial work. a. with Joachim Müller . In the 1980s he was a member of the FDP youth organization German Young Democrats . As chairman of the official working group on homosexuality of the young democrats, he campaigned in the FDP for the deletion of section 175 from the penal code, which made sexual acts between persons of the male sex a criminal offense.

From 1986 to 1988 he was the press spokesman for AIDS support . He was a co-founder of the Victory Column magazine and, alongside Thomas Brüggemann, a co-organizer of the meeting of Berlin gay groups . In 2005 he was a leader in the artistic tender for the memorial to the homosexuals persecuted under National Socialism for the lesbian and gay association in Germany , whose public relations officer he was and whose magazine respekt! - Magazine for lesbian and gay politics he was editor-in-chief together with a colleague for many years. However, he did not fully agree with the implementation. In addition, for many years he was a member of the international advisory board of the Brandenburg Memorials Foundation , which is responsible for the administration of the memorials in the Sachsenhausen and Ravensbrück concentration camps .

After his time in the FDP, Zastrau was active in the SPD for a few years and then in the pirate party until shortly before his death . At the federal party convention of the Pirate Party in 2010 he was one of the meeting leaders.
