The Echinops Exaltatus ( Echinops exaltatus ) is a plant from the family of the daisy family (Asteraceae).

features

The glandeless spherical thistle is a perennial , herbaceous plant that develops a pleiocorm and reaches heights of 40 to 150 (rarely up to 200) centimeters. The stem is usually one-headed. The leaves have no glands on the upper side and are loosely stiff. The shell of the individual heads is 20 to 25 millimeters long. The outer shell is pointed and rhombic to spatulate. The middle one is narrowly lanceolate and has an elongated and outwardly curved tip. The collecting head has a diameter of 4 to 6 centimeters. The crown is blue-gray.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.

distribution

The glandeless spherical thistle occurs in Southeast Europe and Romania in herbaceous vegetation and forest edges in the hill and mountain range. The species is naturalized in Central Europe and Great Britain. The original distribution area includes Italy, the Balkan Peninsula, Bulgaria, Romania and the Ukraine.
