Heinrich Adolf Schrader (born January 1, 1767 in Alfeld near Hildesheim , † October 22, 1836 in Göttingen ) was a German doctor and botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Schrad. "

Life

In 1794 Schrader became director of the Göttingen Botanical Garden . Schrader became a medical doctor in Göttingen in 1795, associate professor and head of the university garden in 1803 and full professor in the same position in 1809.

Schrader published many descriptive papers, partly on plants in Germany and partly on plants from distant countries. Among these there were several larger works with colored pages, such as Sertum Hannoveranum (1795–98, together with Johann Christoph Wendland ), Nova genera plantarum (1797), Flora germanica (beginning, 1806), Hortus Gottingensis (1809) and the Systematic Collection Cryptogamischer Plants (1796-97).

From 1799 to 1803 he was editor of the "Journal für die Botanik" and 1806-10 of the "Neues Journal für die Botik", which were the predecessors of the journal "Flora", which had existed since 1818. In 1804 Schrader was elected a full member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . In 1812 Schrader became a corresponding member of the Royal Prussian and 1815 of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . In 1820 he became a member of the Leopoldina .

Honors

The plant genera Schradera Vahl from the red family (Rubiaceae), Schraderanthus Averett from the nightshade family (Solanaceae) and the moss genera Schraderella Müll.Hal. and Schraderobryum M. Fleisch. have been named after him.
