The Eckener-Gymnasium is a school in the Berlin district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg ( Mariendorf district ). In 1907 it was founded as an upper secondary school by the then still independent community of Mariendorf. In 1911 she moved into the building designed by Reinhardt & Süßenguth on Kaiserstraße at the corner of Rathausstraße , which has an auditorium with an organ by Albert Kienscherf . In 1930 the school was named after the airship pioneer Hugo Eckener . The Eckener grammar school is attended by around 780 pupils.

Organization and offers

In each year there are two classes in the undergraduate train that starts in class 5 and two classes that start with class 7. The first foreign language for all students is English.

  • In the undergraduate course, students learn Latin as a second foreign language from Grade 5 and French as a third foreign language from Grade 7.
  • In addition to the Latin class, there has been a MINT class in the undergraduate train since 2014 .
  • Students starting in Grade 7, like students in the STEM class, choose either Latin or French as their second foreign language.

One of the 7th grades is set up in cooperation with the Tempelhof-Schöneberg Music School as a band class especially for musically interested students. In addition to the usual two hours of music lessons , the students receive an additional hour of instrumental lessons , which take place in small groups. The choir and orchestra, which regularly perform on music evenings, are open to all music-loving students. These two groups are also the main components of the musicals that are held every two years.

The Technik-AG working group has existed at the Eckener School since around 1980. It all started with a small physics working group. Even then, there were TV LIVE broadcasts within the school premises (for games in the gym and events in the courtyard or in the auditorium). Over the decades there has been a constant adjustment to the current trend in technology. Nowadays, this working group is needed for the music evenings and musicals organized by the school to direct the work for sound and image.

There are other working groups such as the school newspaper or the basketball club.

In the upper school level , the Eckener-Gymnasium works together with the Askanisches Gymnasium and the Luise-Henriette-Gymnasium .

organ

Albert Kienscherf, Eckener Gymnasium.JPG

The organ comes from the time the school was built and was created by Albert Kienscherf . She has, through transmission , 11 registers and is of a gaming table from using pneumatic action playable. When the organ was rebuilt in the 1960s or 1970s, the layout was changed. By sawing off certain registers or pipes and installing new registers, it lost its romantic sound. The aim was a more “baroque” sound, which the sill in the second manual also opposed and which was therefore taken out of function. Furthermore, the instrument was decommissioned in later years, whereby on the one hand the bellows elevator system ( there was a calculator call for the calculator on the upper floor ) and the later installed radial fan were removed.

As part of the school renovation, it is planned to repair the damaged organ in 2016/17 and to reconstruct the original layout.

In the 1960s or 1970s, the organ was modified by an unknown organ builder. By sawing off certain registers or pipes and installing new registers, it lost its romantic sound. In addition, the sill for the II. Manual was shut down.
