Eckhard Krotscheck

Eckhard Krotscheck (born July 7, 1944 in Ebersbach , Germany ) is a German physicist and professor emeritus for theoretical physics at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz . He headed the department for many-particle systems at the Institute for Theoretical Physics.

Life

After his studies in Cologne and his habilitation in Hamburg , Eckhard Krotschek worked at numerous research institutions in the USA, including the State University of New York in Stony Brook , the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and the University of California in Santa Barbara . He was an Associate Professor and Full Professor at Texas A&M University from 1984 to 1995 . He also completed two one-year research stays at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg .

Krotscheck has extensive external contacts: Longer research stays were at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen , at the Theoretical Physics Institute at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis , at the Institute for Nuclear Theory at the University of Washington , at Oulu University in Finland , at the Institut Laue -Langevin in Grenoble , at the Universitat de Barcelona , at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya , at the Universitat Autònoma in Barcelona, ​​at the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste and at the University at Buffalo , State University of New York.

In 2007 he (together with Professor Stefano Fantoni from the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati di Trieste) received the Eugene Feenberg Memorial Medal for many-particle physics. Since 2009 he has been an adjunct professor at the University of Buffalo, State University of New York.

Krotscheck and Fantoni (who worked independently of each other) received the Feenberg Prize for their leading role in the development and application of the Correlated Basis Function Method, in particular for the further development of the "Fermi Hypernetted Chain Theory" (FHNC), with which they provided an exact, quantitative, microscopic description of strongly interacting quantum mechanical many-body systems especially for non-homogeneous quantum liquids.

Eckhard Krotscheck has been a full professor at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the JKU since 1995; he retired in 2012
