Edelhard Rock

Edelhard Rock (born January 7, 1908 in Landeshut ; † March 7, 1985 in Wolfenbüttel ) was a German printer , publisher and politician ( center , later CDU ).

Life and work

After attending primary school, Rock completed an apprenticeship as a textile worker from 1922 to 1925, worked in this profession until 1928 and at the same time took part in various courses. From 1922 to 1925 he was a member of the Central Association of Christian Textile Workers in Germany . Rock was the honorary editor of Catholic youth magazines and from 1928 to 1930 as an editor in Landeshut, Waldenburg and Schömberg . Since 1930 he was an independent book printer owner and publisher. He took part in the Second World War as a soldier and was captured by the Soviets, from which he was released in 1947.

Rock fled to West Germany as a displaced person in 1947 and founded a new printing and publishing company in the Wolfenbüttel district in 1948 . In 1950 he was one of the co-founders of the Oder-Neisse regional association or the CDU's Union of Expellees and Refugees, of which he was federal treasurer until 1975.

Political party

During the Weimar Republic , Rock was a member of the Center Party. He joined the CDU in 1947, was first elected deputy chairman in 1948 and then chairman of the CDU regional association in Braunschweig in 1970. From 1958 to 1970 he was chairman of the CDU district association Wolfenbüttel.

MP

In 1933, Rock was a councilor for the city of Schömberg and a member of the local magistrate. From 1948 to 1972 he was a member of the Wolfenbüttel district council . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1972. In the fifth electoral term (1965-1969) he represented the constituency of Goslar - Wolfenbüttel . In the sixth electoral term (1969–1972) he was drafted into the Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list. In the 1960s he campaigned against the establishment of the nuclear waste storage facility in the Asse mine .

Honors

In December 2008, a street in Wolfenbüttel was named after Rock.
