History and population

Eden was first mentioned in documents around 1340 as Oeden , whereby the place name "Öd" (öd, empty, undeveloped) is derived. The place name was in use for a long time, only in the second half of the 20th century did the name “Oeden” disappear and was replaced by “Eden”. In contrast to numerous other districts of Diersbach, Eden experienced a greater increase in buildings and residents in the second half of the 20th century, as several settlement houses were built. The farm in Eden 1, on the other hand, disappeared in the second half of the 19th century, only the so-called "Kollerhaus" remained.

In Eden in 1869 63 people lived in eight houses. By 1910 the population sank to 57 people, with 30 men and 27 women or exclusively Catholics were counted. The number of houses had increased slightly to nine. In the statistics, Eden was divided into the hamlet of Edern with eight houses and 55 inhabitants and the single farm Birieck with one house and two inhabitants. In 1923, too, little had changed in terms of the size of the settlement. The number of houses had increased by one, with three people living in one house in Birieck and 48 people in nine houses in the hamlet of Edern. Until 1951, the number of buildings and their distribution had not changed, the population was 51, with 48 in the hamlet and three in Birieck. Then the district began to watch and in 1971 Eden already comprised 14 houses and 76 residents. Eden has now been classified as a village with 13 houses and 68 inhabitants, eight people lived in Birieck. In 1981 Eden comprised 17 buildings with 72 inhabitants, with the village of Eden alone having 14 buildings and 58 inhabitants. In addition to the single farm Birieck, the wilderness of Hoisn with two buildings and six residents was also shown here, eight people lived in Birieck. In 2001, however, Eden was designated as a pack with 22 buildings and 84 residents. There were 19 buildings with main residences, 30 apartments and 29 households nine six agricultural and forestry operations. The single farm Birieck was also mentioned as other place names, but no separate numbers were collected. In 2011 the village had 66 residents.
