Edgar Heim

Edgar Heim (born July 9, 1930 in Thun ; legal domicile there ) is a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist .

Life

Heim studied medicine at the universities of Bern , Vienna and Paris . From 1957 to 1963 he trained as a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy at the University of Bern . His teachers Max Müller and Ernst Blum were close to psychoanalysis . From 1963 to 1965 he was a Research Trainee and Instructor in Boston , where he got to know other forms of therapy. From 1968 to 1977 he headed the Schlössli Psychiatric Clinic in Oetwil am See . Heim received his habilitation in 1970 at the University of Bern and in the 1972 summer semester at the University of Zurich . From the summer semester of 1976 he was adjunct professor at the University of Zurich. From the winter semester of 1977 he was a full professor for outpatient psychiatry and psychotherapy at the University of Bern and director of the psychiatric outpatient department at the University of Bern. He built up the subject of psychosocial medicine and conducted research in the field of psychosomatics . In 1994 he retired.

Heim taught at the Psychoanalytic Institute Zurich and the CG Jung Institute in Zurich and was President of the International Federation for Psychotherapy for several years . He lives in Thun.
