Juerg Willi

Jürg Willi (born March 16, 1934 in Zurich ; † April 8, 2019 ibid) was a Swiss specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy as well as a psychoanalyst , who also became known as an author beyond specialist circles. Until 1999 he was director of the Psychiatric Polyclinic at the University Hospital Zurich and full professor for Polyclinical Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Diseases at the University of Zurich . From 1999 to 2009 he headed the Institute for Ecological-Systemic Therapy in Zurich, which he co-founded.

Life

Willi was the second of four children of the pediatrician and professor of neonatology Heinrich Willi and his wife Marie-Louise Chuardt (1904–1991). He studied medicine, in 1960 he began his training analysis at Medard Boss and became a psychoanalyst.

From 1965, Willi was the first to carry out couples therapies in the German-speaking area . Since then, partner relationships and personal development in partner relationships have been the focus of his research and training activities. Willi introduced the terms collusion , coevolution , personal niche , impact-based curriculum vitae and ecological psychotherapy into the psychotherapy of partner relationships. In later times Willi also dealt with questions of spirituality .

Willi was married to the object artist Margaretha Dubach from 1963 until his death , they had two sons (* 1964 and * 1971) and lived in Zurich. Most recently he suffered from Parkinson's disease ; he died in April 2019 at the age of 85.

Honors

In 1999 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Friborg and in 2002 the International Otto Mainz Prize for the Science of Love . His book The Relationship between Two was included in Alfred Pritzen's book One Hundred Masterpieces of Psychotherapy .
