vision

Alfred Pritz became known primarily through his professional commitment and his efforts to unite the fragmented and divided psychotherapeutic landscape in Austria. As deputy chairman of the umbrella organization of Austrian Psychotherapeutic Associations, he was significantly involved in the creation of the Psychotherapy Act from 1986 . Together with Hans Strotzka and Raoul Schindler , he was involved in the Austrian Working Group for Group Therapy and Group Dynamics (ÖAGG), a training and research institution in the field of group work. In 1991 he was elected President of the Austrian Psychotherapy Association and in 1996 President of the World Association. In these functions he has organized and directed three world congresses for psychotherapy in Vienna (1996, 1999, 2002) and is involved in other world congresses in Buenos Aires (2005), Beijing (2008) and Sydney (2011).

From 2003 to 2005 Pritz was involved in the reconciliation project with psychotherapists in the former Yugoslavian countries. Since the early 1990s, Alfred Pritz (also in European Septimus and Tacis projects) has been trying to build a psychotherapeutic infrastructure in the post-communist countries of Albania, Latvia, Russia and Ukraine, as well as to integrate refugees in Austria.

In 2005 he founded - together with Jutta Fiegl , Heinz Laubreuter and Elisabeth Vykoukal - the world's first university for psychotherapy sciences, the Sigmund Freud University of Vienna . The outpatient clinic set up there, of which he was initially head (now it is Eva Pritz), ensures basic psychotherapeutic care for three districts of Vienna. Furthermore, together with Elisabeth Vykoukal, he conceived a research project on the messie syndrome and supervises and promotes diploma theses and dissertations on psychotherapy for marginalized and discriminated population groups.

Work as an editor

Alfred Pritz wrote little, but edited many volumes. Time and again he has succeeded in motivating committed co-editors and a large number of authors for common concerns. As the editor of numerous compilations, he has made a name for himself in particular with the encyclopedic works Lexicon of Psychotherapy and Personality Encyclopedia of Psychotherapy , both edited by Springer, both conceived together with Gerhard Stumm , but the other listed volumes are also unique in their field and count today to the standard works.
