Max Müller (doctor)

Max Müller (born September 4, 1894 in Bern ; † February 18, 1980 in Rüfenacht ; legal resident in Bern) was a Swiss psychiatrist .

Life

The son of the doctor and psychiatrist Max Müller senior studied medicine at the University of Bern and graduated in 1920 with a state examination and doctorate . He worked as an assistant doctor to Eugen Bleuler at Burghölzli in Zurich and as a senior physician at the Münsingen sanatorium , of which he was director from 1939 to 1954. In 1931 he received his habilitation for psychiatry at the University of Bern and in 1944 he was appointed associate professor. From 1954 to 1963 he was a full professor of psychiatry at the University of Bern and director of the Waldau .

His son Christian Müller also became a psychiatrist.

Müller had the Münsingen clinic modernized, which received international recognition as a center for somatic therapy ( insulin therapy , electroconvulsive therapy ) as well as for the inclusion of psychoanalysis . In addition to promoting neurobiological research, he was also involved in training nursing staff. His estate is in the Bern Burger Library .

Friedrich Glauser

In 1925 Max Müller met the writer Friedrich Glauser when he was interned in Münsingen for the second time. At that time, Müller lived with his family in the main building on the 3rd floor (on the left as seen from the stairwell) and was one of Glauser's most important people to relate to until 1933, as he carried out a psychoanalysis with him during this time , promoted him literary and even made contact with him granted to one's own family. Glauser integrated this relationship in his third Wachtmeister Studer novel Matto rules .
