Edith Vesperini (born March 24, 1945 in Paris ) is a French costume designer .

Life

Edith Vesperini's film career began in the late 1970s, when Costa-Gavras entrusted her with the costume design of his film drama The Love of a Woman (1979), in which Yves Montand and Romy Schneider played the leading roles. In 1982 the crime film The Henchmen with Claude Brasseur followed . After another collaboration with Costa-Gavras for the film Hanna K. (1983) Vesperini was involved as a costume designer in Coline Serreau's Oscar- nominated comedy Three Men and a Baby (1985). For the biography Van Gogh with Jacques Dutronc in the title role, she received a 1992 nomination for the César in the category of best costumes . In the 1990s, Vesperini was mainly used in film comedies such as A Couch in New York (1996), Men Are Only Women (1998) and Love at the Sexest Look (1998).

Vesperini and Jean-Daniel Vuillermoz were able to win the César for the costumes of the 17th century historical film Saint Cyr (2000) with Isabelle Huppert in the role of Madame de Maintenon . Vesperini then made the costumes for another period film under the title Vercingétorix - Kampf gegen Rom (2001) with Christopher Lambert in the title role and Klaus Maria Brandauer as Julius Caesar . Costa-Gavras then came back to her as a costume designer when he made his film Der Stellvertreter in 2002 , in which Ulrich Tukur, in the role of an SS officer, questions the deportation of the Jews and turns to the Vatican . Vesperini was also responsible for the costume design for the film drama The Colonel and Me (2006) with Cécile de France , for which Costa-Gavras wrote the script and which illuminates France's inglorious role in the Algerian War.

Vesperini was also active in French television over the years, including from 2009 to 2016 in the 18th century television series Nicolas Le Floch .
