Edmund Leukert

Edmund Leukert (born February 24, 1904 in Ruppersdorf near Reichenberg , Bohemia , † May 10, 1983 in Munich ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( DCSVP , later CSU ).

Life and work

After attending elementary and community school, Leukert completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith, took further training at the commercial training school and then did military service in the Czechoslovak army . In the following years he was involved in the Catholic youth movement , the Catholic journeymen's association and the Sudeten German Christian trade union movement . From 1928 to 1938 he was the district manager of the Christian trade unions in Reichenberg . He was also a board member of the German Health Insurance Institute in Reichenberg and the German Health Insurance Association.

Leukert was department head of the Reichenberg Chamber of Crafts from 1939 to 1944 and department head of the Sudetenland Chamber of Commerce in 1943/44 . He took part in World War II as a soldier since 1944 and was most recently taken prisoner by the United States, from which he was released in June 1945.

After his release from captivity, Leukert moved to West Germany as a displaced person and settled in Bavaria , where he was co-founder and chairman of the main committee of refugees and deportees. In 1948 he became deputy managing director of Bayerische Landessiedlung GmbH in Munich . In the early 1970s he was a member of the board of directors of the load equalization bank.

Political party

Leukert was a member of the German Christian Social People's Party (DCSVP) in the 1930s and was elected deputy district chairman of the party in Reichenberg. He joined the CSU in 1946, was initially district chairman of the Union of Expellees (UdV) for Upper Bavaria and later became regional chairman of the UdV.

MP

Leukert was a councilor for the city of Reichenberg in the 1930s. It belonged to the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1957, from April 21, 1958, when he replaced the late MP Wolfgang Klausner , until 1961, and from June 27, 1962, when he replaced the late MP Georg Baron Manteuffel-Szoege , until 1969 on. He was always drawn into parliament via the Bavarian state list.
