Edmundo Ponziano Valenzuela Mellid
Edmundo Ponziano Valenzuela Mellid SDB (born November 19, 1944 in Villarrica del Espíritu Santo ) is a Paraguayan religious , missionary and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Asunción .

Edmundo Ponziano Valenzuela Mellid entered the religious community of the Salesians of Don Bosco and made his profession on January 29, 1968 . He was ordained a priest on April 3, 1971 and worked, among other things, as a missionary in Angola .
On February 13, 2006 he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed Titular Bishop of Uzalis with the role of Vicar Apostolic of Chaco Paraguayo , an area with a population of 18,000 but only 5 priests. He was ordained bishop on April 22, 2006 by the Archbishop of Asunción , Eustaquio Pastor Cuquejo Verga . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Concepción , Zacarías Ortiz Rolón SDB, and the Bishop of Lomas de Zamora , Agustín Roberto Radrizzani SDB.
On November 8, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. as Coadjutor Archbishop of Asunción.
With the age-related resignation of Eustaquio Pastor Cuquejo Vergas on November 6, 2014, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Asunción.
