Zacarías Ortiz Rolón

Zacarías Ortiz Rolón SDB (born September 6, 1934 in Arroyos y Esteros , Paraguay ; † January 6, 2020 in Asunción ) was a Paraguayan religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Concepción en Paraguay .

Life

Zacarías Ortiz Rolón joined the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco , made his profession on January 14, 1961 and was ordained a priest on August 14, 1965 in Cordoba . He studied philosophy and theology at the Salesian Institutes in Cordoba , Argentina , and then specialized in education at the Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and at the Pontifical University of the Salesians in Rome , where he obtained his license in pastoral catechetics. In 1985, he assumed the role of Salesian Provincial of Paraguay and was the first Salesian in Paraguay to perform this service.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on March 12, 1988 Vicar Apostolic of Chaco Paraguayo and Titular Bishop of Minora . The Archbishop of Asunción , Ismael Blas Rolón Silvero SDB, consecrated him bishop on June 26th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Alejo del Carmen Obelar Colman SDB, Archbishop of Trujillo , and Celso Yegros Estigarribia , Bishop of Carapeguá .

John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Concepción en Paraguay on July 12, 2003. On July 11, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
