The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Trujillo ( lat. : Archidioecesis truxillensis ) is in Peru located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Trujillo (Peru) .

history

The Archdiocese of Trujillo was founded on April 15, 1577 by Pope Gregory XIII. founded as the diocese of Trujillo ("Truxillensis") out of the archbishopric of Lima . The diocese of Maynas (1803), the diocese of Cajamarca (1908) and the diocese of Piura (1940) were founded with various assignments of territory . In 1943 Pope Pius XII. the bishopric to the archbishopric . The Diocese of Chiclayo (1956) and the Territorial Prelature of Huamachuco (1961) were founded by further assignments of territory .

The Archdiocese of Trujillo are assigned the Diocese of Cajamarca , Diocese Chimbote , Territorial Prelature Huamachuco , Diocese Huaraz , Diocese Huari and the Territorial Prelature Moyobamba as a suffragan .
