The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Piura ( Latin Archidioecesis Piurensis , Spanish Arquidiócesis de Piura ) is a in northern Peru situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Piura .

history

The diocese of Piura was founded on February 29, 1940 by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Ad christianae plebis from cessions of territory of the diocese of Trujillo . It was then subordinated to the Archdiocese of Trujillo as a suffragan . On June 30, 1966, the diocese of Piura was by Pope Paul VI. raised to the archbishopric with the Apostolic Constitution Sic ut paterfamilias .

The Archdiocese of Piura comprises the territory of the Piura and Tumbes regions .
