The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cajamarca ( lat. : Dioecesis Caiamarcensis ) is in the north of Peru located Roman Catholic diocese based in Cajamarca .

history

The diocese of Cajamarca was established on April 5, 1908 from cessions of territory by the dioceses of Trujillo and Chachapoyas . The diocese gave several times in its history parts of its territory to establish new dioceses. The diocese of Cajamarca is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Trujillo as a suffragan .

Bishop José Carmelo Martínez Lázaro OAR has been taking a sabbatical year in his Spanish homeland since June 2019 . Pope Francis appointed Bishop Fortunato Pablo Urcey OAR of Chota as Apostolic Administrator sede plena . On July 21, 2019, Bishop Fortunato Pablo Urcey was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Cajamarca by Nuncio Nicolas Girasoli .
