The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sucre (Latin Archidioecesis Sucrensis , Spanish Arquidiócesis de Sucre ) is one in Bolivia situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Sucre .
history
The diocese of Sucre was established on June 27, 1552 from the cession of the diocese of Cuzco as the diocese of La Plata o Charcas . It was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Lima as a suffragan . On July 20, 1609, the diocese of La Plata o Charcas was raised to an archbishopric.
On November 11, 1924, the name of the Archdiocese of La Plata o Charcas was changed to Archdiocese of Sucre .
The archbishopric gave up parts of its territory several times in its history to establish new bishoprics:
- Diocese of Paraguay , 1547
- Diocese of Santiago de Chile , 1561
- Diocese of Santa Cruz de la Sierra , 1605
- Diocese of La Paz , 1608
