Eduard Müller (born June 9, 1841 in Bonn , † August 16, 1926 in Koblenz ) was a German lawyer and politician ( center ). He is an honorary citizen of the city of Koblenz.

Life and work

Eduard Müller grew up in Bonn. He studied law and started his legal clerkship in Koblenz after passing his legal exams . In 1866 he was appointed as a lawyer , in the same year he opened a law firm, which was taken over in 2013 and is still run today under a different name. In 1870 he was appointed lawyer, in 1891 a judicial councilor and in 1911 a secret councilor . In 1912 he founded the Association of Lawyers in Koblenz, which he also headed until 1921. For more than 30 years he was the chairman of the local association of the Center Party in Koblenz and in the constituency of Koblenz-St. Goar. He was also a member of the city council for more than 20 years, and from 1904 he was also an honorary councilor. In addition, he represented the city and district of Koblenz from 1905 to 1918 in the Prussian House of Representatives .

Müller stood up for Catholic issues and represented clergy and other dignitaries in court, including Johannes Bernhard Brinkmann , the Bishop of Münster . During the Kulturkampf he wrote various political articles. His formulations earned him two proceedings before the legal disciplinary court , which he survived unscathed. From 1887 to 1920 he was a member of the leadership of the Catholic reading club in Koblenz with two interruptions. He organized the German Katholikentag in Koblenz in 1890 and was also President of the Kirchentag.

Müller was appointed commander of the Papal Order of St. New Year . He was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle , the Royal Crown Order and the Knight's Cross of the Baden Order of the Zähringer Lion . On December 5, 1917, the city council made him an honorary citizen of Koblenz . On April 22, 1948, a street in the Goldgrube district of Koblenz was named after him in his honor.
