Eduard Perrone (born 1949 ), rarely spelled Edward Perrone , is an American traditionalist Roman Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit .

Life

In 1998, Perrone accepted Sisters of the Angel Work in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish (also known as the Assumption Grotto ) in Detroit after serving as a pastor there. In 2002 Eduard Perrone was a co-founder of the Opus Bono Sacerdotii relief organization , which served to support priests who were suspected of being abused . In 2017, public prosecution investigations into embezzlement of donations led to the resignation of his entire board of directors, including the platform. The Archdiocese of Detroit asked the Holy See to check whether Perrone, who had motivated the establishment of the work, had himself offended against minors. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith authorized a canonical investigation into the allegations.

In July 2019, he was suspended as a priest after allegations of abuse . In 2019, the archbishopric named him in a list of priests who were "credibly accused of sexual assault". Perrone denied having sexually abused children . Nonetheless, the archbishopric forbade him as a precautionary measure , maintaining the presumption of innocence, from appearing as a priest , from wearing the cassock and from exercising any church office. As a precautionary measure, Monsignor Ronald Browne was given the leadership of the parish. The Archdiocese under Archbishop Allen Vigneron called witnesses, the district attorney from Michigan to contact for further investigation. He took over the criminal investigation in all seven Roman Catholic dioceses of Michigan, Perrone continued to deny the allegations.

In February 2020, 20 Perrones supporters sued the Archdiocese of Detroit for US $ 20 million in damages because the loss of the priest caused them "emotional stress". After Perrone's temporary removal, another person accused him of sexual harassment , which Perrone also denied. In 2020, a witness withdrew his testimony against Perrone of raping him 40 years earlier ; After an out-of-court settlement, Perrone received compensation of US $ 125,000 from the police investigator responsible. Investigations continued on the remaining sexual harassment charges; no charges were brought against the police officer. The Archdiocese transferred the case canonically on to the Vatican, the provisional suspension Perrone was maintained.
