Allen Henry Vigneron (born October 21, 1948 in Mount Clemens , Michigan , USA ) is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Detroit .

Life

Allen Vigneron attended elementary school in the Immaculate Conception Parish in Anchorville . He graduated from the Sacred Heart Seminary’s high school program in Detroit . Vigneron then attended college there . In June 1970 he was in the subjects of Philosophy and Classical Languages graduated . Then he was sent to Rome . Allen Vigneron studied there at the Pontifical Gregorian University . During this time he lived in the Pontifical North America College . He obtained a Bachelor of Theology in 1973 . In 1974 Vigneron returned to his home diocese after being ordained a deacon and worked in the parish of St. Clement of Rome in Romeo . On July 26, 1975, he received the sacrament of ordination through the Archbishop of Detroit, Cardinal John Francis Dearden .

Allen Vigneron then served as a priest in the parish of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Harper Woods . In 1976 he returned to Rome for further studies. Vigneron obtained a licentiate in Catholic theology there in 1977 . He then returned to the Archdiocese of Detroit and became an assistant priest in the parish of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Harper Woods. John Francis Cardinal Dearden sent him to Washington, DC, to the Catholic University of America in the fall of 1979 . There he obtained a Master of Theology in 1983 . Allen Vigneron was in May 1987 with a dissertation on the German philosopher Edmund Husserl for doctor of philosophy doctorate . He taught philosophy and Catholic theology at the Sacred Heart College Seminary in Detroit. In January 1988 Vigneron Regens became that seminary . In 1991 Allen Vigneron returned to Rome and worked there as an official in the General Affairs Section of the Vatican State Secretariat . During this time he was also a lecturer at the Pontifical Gregorian University.

On 12 June 1996 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Detroit. He was ordained bishop on July 9, 1996 by the local Archbishop Adam Joseph Cardinal Maida ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Washington , Cardinal James Aloysius Hickey , and Cardinal Curia Edmund Casimir Szoka . Vigneron chose the motto Aspicientes in Iesum (" Look at Jesus"), which comes from the letter to the Hebrews ( Heb 12.2  EU ). During his time as Auxiliary Bishop Allen Vigneron was responsible for Pastoral Region 2 of the Archdiocese of Detroit.

On January 10, 2003, Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Oakland . The inauguration took place on February 26, 2003. On October 1, 2003, Vigneron finally succeeded John Stephen Cummins as Bishop of Oakland after the age-related resignation of John Stephen Cummins .

On January 5, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Detroit. At the same time, as Apostolic Superior, he was given responsibility for the Mission sui juris of the Cayman Islands . The inauguration in Detroit took place on January 28, 2009.

In the United States Bishops' Conference , Vigneron chairs the American College Committee and the Doctrine of the Faith Committee and the Catechism Subcommittee . He is also a trustee of the National Catholic Bioethics Center and the Catholic University of America.
