Eduard von Harnier (born July 23, 1829 in Frankfurt am Main ; † September 1, 1917 ibid) was a German lawyer and synodal in Frankfurt am Main.

Life and work

Eduard von Harnier , son of the future senator and mayor Eduard Ludwig von Harnier , studied law at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen after graduating from high school . In the winter semester of 1848/49 he became a member of the Hannovera Göttingen fraternity . As a young student, during the semester break, he had a direct impression of the events surrounding the Frankfurt National Assembly and met important parliamentarians in his father's house, e. B. Heinrich von Gagern , Felix Fürst Lichnowsky , Ernst Moritz Arndt and Ludwig Uhland , as well as the imperial administrator Johann Archduke of Austria know personally.

Since his father held high offices in the city of Frankfurt am Main, he was not allowed to join the administration there for legal reasons. In 1851, after completing his training and obtaining his doctorate, he was awarded a Dr. jur. down as a lawyer. His practice flourished and he represented many well-known personalities over the years, including Otto von Bismarck in a civil matter when the Prussian envoy to the German Confederation . Several trips took Eduard von Harnier to France and England. He volunteered in a number of non-profit associations and committees in Frankfurt, e. B. for poor relief, the foundation for the blind institution , the construction of a new stock exchange building and in the polytechnic society . Like his ancestors, who came from Wallonia and belonged to the Huguenots , he belonged to the French Reformed Church. For more than 50 years he was presbyter of the French Reformed Church , which he led repeatedly as praeses. In addition, from 1893 he was assessor at the Frankfurt Reformed Consistory , which was dissolved in 1899. He played a key role in multiple changes to the highly complex church constitutions within the city of Frankfurt. He was a member of the new Evangelical-Reformed city synod from the beginning in 1899 and chaired it from 1904 to 1912. He was also a member of the neighboring United Lutheran and Reformed City Synod from 1899 to 1914 and was its chairman from 1908 to 1912.
