Eduard von Lichnowsky
Prince Eduard Maria von Lichnowsky (born September 19, 1789 in Vienna , † January 1, 1845 in Munich ) was the third Prince of Lichnowsky and worked as an author and historian.
Life
He came from the Bohemian-Silesian noble family Lichnowsky . He was the son of Prince Karl from his marriage to Christiane Countess Thun. He studied in Göttingen and Leipzig . He married Countess Eleonore von Zichy in 1813. With this he had several children. Among them were the sons Felix and Karl .
After his father's death in 1814, he became the third Prince of Lichnowsky to take over his inheritance. Among other things, he introduced newer rational methods of keeping sheep in the management of the goods.
He has also worked as a fiction and scientific author. Lichnowsky published the " Monuments of Architecture and Sculpture of the Middle Ages in the Austrian Empire " from 1817 onwards . The volumes contained texts written by him and illustrations by well-known artists. The series ended after the fourth volume, published in 1824, which also no longer contained any text. Lichnowsky also worked as a translator for works by Félicité de Lamennais . But only one volume appeared. In 1821 he published a tragedy under the title "Roderich."
Its history of the House of Habsburg was of more lasting importance . The suggestion for this is said to have come from Klemens Wenzel Lothar von Metternich . Eight volumes were published between 1836 and 1844. These included the time from Rudolf I to Friedrich III. that is, the years 1218 to 1493. Even then, the work met with criticism. Today it is out of date. However, it is still of a certain importance, especially because of the appendix to sources and the regesta of documents. However, these parts came to a large extent from the employee Ernst von Birk.
After 1842 his health deteriorated and he stayed in Rome for a long time before moving to Munich.
