Edvard Frank (born September 6, 1909 in Korschenbroich ; † July 24, 1972 in Saarlouis ) is a German painter of the " missing generation ".

Life

He began his training in 1926 at the crafts and arts and crafts school in Trier with August Trümper , then studied at the Cologne factory schools with Richard Seewald , and moved to the academy in Berlin in the class of Karl Hofer . After being drafted for military service, he presumably injured himself. He evaded being drafted again at the end of the war by deserting . At the end of the war he lived in the district town of Birkenfeld / Nahe in the Hunsrück until the mid-1950s . A large number of drawings and watercolors were created here, which he was reluctant to hand over. After the war he became a member of the Trier Secession and had increasing success with exhibitions in the Baden-Baden Municipal Art Collection as well as in Hamburg , Lübeck , Berlin , Karlsruhe , Mannheim , Mainz and Kaiserslautern . The bridge painter Erich Heckel appreciated his work.
The subjects preferred by Frank were often erotic and based on classicist motifs.

Edvard Frank was a member of the German Association of Artists .

Quote

Heinz Schöffler, critic: “You can never see the best of your pictures through to the end. Clearly arranged, they give up puzzles, they always give more than they show. Last but not least, this characteristic makes that you can always have Edvard Frank's pictures around you. One is happy with them. "
