Jane Pierce
Jane Means Appleton Pierce (March 12, 1806 in Hampton , New Hampshire , † December 2, 1863 in Andover , Massachusetts ) was the wife of the 14th US President Franklin Pierce and the First Lady of the United States from 1853 to 1857.
Life
Jane Pierce's father was Jesse Appleton. When he died, she moved to Amherst , New Hampshire with her mother . There Jane Appleton met the young lawyer Franklin Pierce. The two only married many years later. At the time of the wedding, the bride was 28 years old.
She died of tuberculosis in Andover on December 2, 1863. She is buried at the side of her husband in the Old North Cemetery in Concord .
