Sarah Polk
Sarah Childress Polk (born September 4, 1803 in Murfreesboro , Tennessee , † August 14, 1891 in Nashville ) was the wife of the 11th US President James K. Polk and the First Lady of the United States from March 4, 1845 to March 3 March 1849.
As the older daughter of Captain Joel and Elizabeth Childress, she grew up on a plantation near Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
James and Sarah were married on January 1, 1824. The marriage remained childless, but they adopted a nephew, Marshall Tate Polk (1831–1884).
Sarah Polk is buried in Nashville.
