Emily Donelson
Emily Tennessee Donelson (born June 1, 1807 in Donelson , Davidson County , Tennessee , † December 19, 1836 ) was the niece of the wife of the seventh US President Andrew Jackson . She was the unofficial first lady of the USA from 1829 to 1836 , as Jackson's wife Rachel had died in 1828.
She was born on her father John Donelson's farm. He was the brother of Rachel Donelson Jackson, the future wife of President Andrew Jackson. Emily graduated from the Nashville Female Academy .
On September 16, 1824, Emily married her first cousin , the diplomat and later candidate for election to US Vice President, Andrew Jackson Donelson (1799–1871). The couple had five children.
In 1836 her health deteriorated and she was diagnosed with tuberculosis . In June of the same year she retired from the White House to her plantation "Tulip Grove".
