Edward Higgins

George Edward Higgins (born November 13, 1930 in Gaffney , California , † March 4, 2006 ) was an American sculptor . He was considered an important representative of abstract sculpture.

life and work

Edward George Higgins received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina in 1954 . He specialized in abstract sculptures made of welded steel.

Higgins had his first solo exhibition in 1960 at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City , where more were to follow in 1963 and 1966. Another important solo exhibition of his work took place in 1964 at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts . Other important exhibitions of his sculptures were in 1963 at the Museum of Modern Art and later at the Guggenheim Museum , in 1966 at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Dallas Museum of Art . He also took part in the exhibitions at the New York World's Fair 1964-1965.

In 1968 five of his welded steel sculptures were shown at the 4th documenta in Kassel . Edward George Higgins has taught sculpture at Parsons The New School for Design , and has taught at Philadelphia Music School , Cornell University , the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Kentucky .

He lived and worked in Easton , Pennsylvania
