Count Edward Raczyński (also under the German name Eduard von Raczynski ; born April 2, 1786 in Posen , † January 20, 1845 in Santomischel ) was a Polish nobleman .

He came from the Raczyński family , which belonged to the old nobility of Greater Poland . Edward Raczynski and his brother Atanazy were raised at the family home in Rogalin .

After he became enthusiastic about the first two chants of the Lord Byron verse epic Childe Harold's Pilgrimage , he organized a trip to Greece and Asia Minor in 1814 . After his return he published a magnificent volume in large-folio format in 1821 with the title Dziennik podrozy do Turcyi odbyty w roku MDCCCXIV with a travel report. In 1825 the work was published in the same format under the title Picturesque Journey in some provinces of the Ottoman Empire in German.

In 1829 he founded the Raczyński Library in Poznan.

Raczyński was the lead committee member of the foundation of a monument to Mieszko I and Bolesław the Brave in Poznan . Negotiations were held with Karl Friedrich Schinkel , Christian Daniel Rauch , the Prussian government and the Poznan cathedral chapter . The last problem was Raczyński's personal inscription on the base of the monument, which he finally had to be removed. He then committed suicide with a small cannon.
