Efraim ben Jacob

Efraim (Ephraim) ben Jakob ben Kalonymos from Bonn , also Efrayim Ben-Yaʻaqov (* 1132 or 1133; † 1200 or 1221 ) was a rabbi , chronicler , Talmudist and liturgical poet .

Life

He was the son of the Jew Jakob in Bonn, grandson of Kalonymos and brother of Kalonymos ben Jakob and Hillel ben Jakob .

Ephraim was a disciple of the rabbi Ephraim ben Isaac . He wrote about the persecution of Jews in Germany, England and France during the Second Crusade (1147), reported on the Jewish massacres in Blois (1171), York (1189–1190) and London (1190).

He was the successor of the rabbi Joel ben Isaac ha-Levi in Bonn, but also taught in Mainz and Speyer .
