The convolvulus althaeoides ( Convolvulus althaeoides ) is a plant type from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae).
description
The herbaceous plant with prostrate or twisting, slender and hairy stems forms up to 1 meter long shoots. The alternate leaves are clearly stalked, the lower ones being heart-ovoid and bulged.
The hermaphroditic, radial symmetry , five-fold flowers are up to three on axillary stems that are about 6 centimeters long, and thus longer than the leaves. The overgrown deep pink petals form a funnel-shaped crown that is about 4 centimeters long. The capsule fruit is hairy.
The flowering period is April to July.
The chromosome number for Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. althaeoides 2n = 40.
Possible confusion
The marshmallow-leaved wind ( Convolvulus althaeoides L. ) differs from the similar Convolvulus elegantissimus Mill. By the rather shallowly lobed to notched leaves with wide sections. Convolvulus elegantissimus Mill. (Syn .: Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. Tenuissimus (Sm.) Batt .; Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. Elegantissimus (Mill.) Quézel & Santa nom. Inval.) Has deeply lobed leaves with narrow sections up to the midrib. Some authors have placed both species as subspecies of one species, namely Convolvulus althaeoides .
Occurrence
Dry cultivated and fallow areas are preferred as the location. The distribution area of this Mediterranean species includes the Canary Islands and the entire Mediterranean area .
Subspecies
Two subspecies can be distinguished:
- Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. althaeoides (Syn .: Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. darnitanus Maire ): It occurs in Macaronesia and from the Mediterranean region to Chad .
- Convolvulus althaeoides subsp. tenuissimus (Sm.) Batt. (Syn .: Convolvulus elegantissimus Mill. ): It occurs in the southern and eastern Mediterranean.
