Eichholz is a district of the Lower Saxony municipality of Marschacht in the joint municipality of Elbmarsch .

geography

Eichholz is three kilometers south of the core town of Marschacht on the K81 . The route of the federal highway 404 runs to the west . The Elbe flows north four kilometers away.

history

Eichholz was first mentioned in a document in 1300. So one had Marquardus de Ekholte to Lüneburg married. In 1757, during the Seven Years' War , the French marched from Harburg to Artlenburg to use the ford there. A bayonet found in Eichholz proves the march through Eichholz. Eichholz was evacuated from April 21 to mid-May 1945. The reason was the risk of impact of English artillery pieces from the Rottorf area on German troops who had established themselves in Geesthacht . In 1911/1912 the Winsen – Niedermarschacht railway was built, which was in daily operation until 1968. Today there are only weekly freight trains running there. In 1987 a village house was built with the help of almost everyone from Eichholz. The last dairy cattle in Eichholz was abolished in 1989.

politics

Until the municipal reform on July 1, 1972, Eichholz was a separate municipality with its own mayor . Eichholz has been part of Marschacht as a district since that date. The last meeting of the independent municipal council took place on June 23, 1972. Until the local elections on October 22, 1972, there was an interim council made up of former council members from the districts.
